Liverpool’s summer rebuild is already beginning to take shape, with incoming head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes reportedly identifying key areas for reinforcement. While the Reds remain in contention for a successful Premier League finish, decisions behind the scenes suggest an overhaul is quietly underway.
Key areas have been marked for improvement: left-back, centre-back, a central midfielder, and most crucially, a new centre-forward. The club is expected to balance its ambitions with financial pragmatism, as substantial squad changes will likely require outgoings to fund incomings.
In particular, the futures of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are drawing serious attention. Sources indicate that both players could be sacrificed to generate significant funds — with Saudi interest offering a potential windfall.
Both Nunez and Diaz are drawing admirers from the Saudi Pro League, with TBR Football reporting that clubs including Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr have reignited their interest in the pair. It’s understood that Liverpool were seeking £75 million for Nunez during the winter window, but that valuation may drop to around £60 million as the Reds re-evaluate their plans.
Likewise, Diaz’s contract uncertainty — with his current deal running until 2027 — is weighing heavily on the club’s strategy. Should no progress be made on an extension, the Merseysiders may sanction a sale this summer to avoid a depreciating asset. A £60 million fee has been suggested, which would inject a combined £120 million into Liverpool’s summer war chest.
Crucially, both players are reportedly open to the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia. As the TBR report noted:
“The Saudi Pro League are ready to make a double move on Liverpool’s forward line this summer… TBR Football is told that Diaz, like Nunez, would be open to move to the Middle East.”
That shift in willingness from the players may ease negotiations and accelerate Liverpool’s ability to act decisively in the market.
With funds potentially raised through the exits of Nunez and Diaz, attention turns to who may replace them. Several names have emerged as possible successors. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is thought to be high on the radar, while Matheus Cunha and Hugo Ekitike have also been scouted.
Arne Slot is known for his tactical flexibility and high-tempo football, and any incoming forward will need to fit his vision. Slot, who arrives from Feyenoord, is expected to demand dynamic and technically proficient players who can adapt to multiple attacking roles.
While the futures of Diaz and Nunez remain unresolved, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have provided much-needed continuity by committing their futures to Anfield. TBR Football confirmed:
“Liverpool have dealt a double blow to the Saudi Pro League as targets Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have now signed new contracts at Anfield.”
Their renewals offer some assurance to fans that not all the club’s core figures are on the move, even as a reshuffle looms in the final third.
