France’s perfect streak in their Euro 2024 qualifiers continued on Monday night, with Les Bleus winning 1-0 against Greece at the Stade de France. Kylian Mbappé’s record-breaking 54th goal of the season was enough to give France more breathing space at the top of Group B.

Les Bleus are firmly in the driving seat to qualify for the Germany-hosted European Championships. “We win games, and we keep winning them. Although we could have put the game to bed, because we never know what could have happened in the dying minutes“, a relieved Didier Deschamps said to TF1.

Eventually, France made it four wins out of a possible four, including two victories in a usually tricky June break for Les Bleus, especially with no international tournaments ahead. France won 3-0 against Gibraltar on Friday before beating Greece on Monday. “The season was very long for them. They were craving for holidays, but we did what needed to be done to win this game“, Deschamps added.

With an exciting mix of experienced players such as Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann, or Olivier Giroud and talented newcomers like Ibrahima Konaté or Randal Kolo Muani, the 2022 World Cup runners-up are arguably favourites to win the European Championships one year from now. “I’m very happy with what the players showed in this difficult period“, Deschamps beamed. “There was less experience than six months ago [for the World Cup], but there is quality. I’m very proud of what they did.

France’s next game will see them face Ireland at Paris’ Parc des Princes on September 7th as part of their Euro 2024 qualifiers. Les Bleus will then face Germany for a friendly game in Dortmund five days later.
