CF Montreal midfielder Djordje Mihailovic is nearing a move to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, 90min sources confirm.
Mihailovic has been a revelation since joining Montreal from the Chicago Fire ahead of the 2021 season, scoring 12 goals and providing 19 primary assists in 59 appearances for the Canadian club.
The 23-year-old's form earned him a recall to the United States Men's National Team for friendlies against Morocco and Uruguay in June, although an ankle injury forced him to withdraw.
But more than that, Mihailovic has also attracted strong interest from Europe. Leeds United were linked with the playmaker earlier this year but, now, it looks like AZ Alkmaar will be his next destination.
90min understands the Eredivisie side will pay up to $6m including bonuses for the six-time US international who, as reported by MLSsoccer.com's Tom Bogert, won't feature in CF Montreal's match against the New England Revolution as he closes in on a transfer.
It's thought Montreal, who currently sit second in the Eastern Conference, would prefer to keep Mihailovic on loan until the end of the 2022 season to help them in their MLS Cup Playoffs campaign. However, this remains one of the details yet to be finalized in the transfer.
Sources tell 90min that a medical has already been scheduled for Mihailovic, who has seven goals and three primary assists to his name in 20 MLS appearances this season.
