MIAMI – The 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, with three Concacaf nations taking part int the tournament that introduces the world to the next generation of women’s footballers.
This will be the third FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that takes place in the Concacaf region, and the second in a Caribbean nation, following Trinidad and Tobago 2010, and Costa Rica 2014.
Concacaf will count with the representation of three national teams: the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the United States.
Home fans will be waiting to cheer their team when the Dominican Republic steps on the field as the hosts. Part of Group A, they will share the pitch with Ecuador, New Zealand and Nigeria.
The Caribbean nation will seek to make the most of its participation and home field advantage. Julia Jimenez leads the offensive line of the Quisqueyanas, closely followed by Renata Mercedes and Maria Torreria.
Winners of the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship, the U.S. will participate in its sixth U-17 WWC. The most successful campaign for the program came in the inaugural tournament in 2008, finishing as runner-ups of the competition. The U.S. was drawn in Group B alongside current champions Spain, runner-ups North Korea, and Colombia.
Many of the stars of the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship, such as top scorer Kennedy Fuller, Melanie Barcenas and Kimmi Ascanio are players that will make the trip to the Caribbean looking to repeat their great performances.
Mexico, who finished as runner-up of the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship as the hosts, booked their seventh participation to the U-17 WWC. The nation’s best result being is a second place at Uruguay 2018. As part of Group C, Mexico will face Korea DPR, Kenya, and England.
There are many names from the Mexico squad that shined in the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship last February. Goalkeeper Camila Vazquez, who made 12 saves and managed to get three clean sheets, Abril Fragoso, who scored three goals and became one of the top scorers, and Alexa Soto, are part of the team that will fight to go beyond their previous teammates, are all on the trip to the Dominican Republic.
