Tottenham confirm Anthony Georgiou transfer to AEL Limassol

According to the club’s official website, Tottenham youngster Anthony Georgiou has completed a transfer to Cypriot club AEL Limassol.

The 23-year-old started out at the Watford youth academy before making the switch to the Tottenham youth setup in 2013. Having risen through the youth ranks at the club, the winger made his first-team debut for us in September 2017 in a UEFA Europa League clash against APOEL.

That remained his only appearance for the first-team. Although, he did feature 46 times for Tottenham’s U23 outfit, scoring one goal and setting up seven more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Georgiou had three loan spells away at Levante B (Jan – Jun 2019), Ipswich Town (Aug 2019 – Jan 2020) and Bolton Wanderers (Jan – May 2020). The 23-year-old was never able to make quite the desired impact at any of his temporary clubs.

Georgiou had signed a new contract with Tottenham in 2019. However, with that deal set to run out at the end of the ongoing campaign, the club had opened talks with AEL Limassol over the possibility of a transfer. And now, a deal has been completed, as per the update on the club’s website.

“We have reached an agreement with Cypriot First Division side AEL Limassol for the transfer of Anthony Georgiou. We wish Anthony all the best for the future.”

  1. Jose Mourinho stance on the pursuit of Real Madrid star Eder Militao revealed
  2. Manchester United make a loan offer for Tottenham target Christian Eriksen
  3. Trabzonspor make an offer for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Danny Rose

Considering that Georgiou featured just one time for the club’s first-team and wasn’t anywhere near the senior team picture under current manager Jose Mourinho, it only made sense for Tottenham to let him leave the club.

He will now look to resurrect his career with the Cypriot outfit.
