The Ballon d’Or nominees for the 2024 edition of the prestigious award are released today, with players voted for by journalists and peers.

There is also the Yashin Trophy, named after legendary Soviet Union shot-stopper Lev Yashin, although his name in French has become Yachine.

Donnarumma is a candidate again this season, along with Milan and France goalkeeper Maignan, Scudetto-winning Inter and Switzerland veteran Sommer.

Diogo Costa of FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, Argentina and Aston Villa man Emiliano Martinez, Unai Simon of Spain and Athletic Club, Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa.
