Cameroon’s sports minister Mouelle Kombi has announced that former OH Leuven head coach Marc Brys will be the countries new head coach. However, there have been other reports that suggest the countries football association had not been informed about the appointment. The association, known as Fecafoot, is led by Samuel Eto and released a statement that they only learned about the news at the same time as the rest of the country.
Whether or not this will be allowed remains up in the air. FIFA have been quick to act if it believes there is outside interference from government in the footballing governance within a country. Where there has been interference from governments at odds with the countries association has led to countries being suspended in the past.
Brys has never managed at international level before. He has managed mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands, with some time in the middle-east. He spent three years with OH Leuven, taking over after they had already been promoted to the top flight of Belgian football. Brys succeeds Rigobert Song, who was sacked after the sides disappointing AFCON at the beginning of the year.
