The Blues recently announced the 17-year-old’s signing from the Phoenix Allstars Football Academy in a deal to be completed when he turns 18 next year.

Fans hoping to get a glimpse of his potential got just that when the talent nicknamed ‘Whisper’ came off the bench during Jamaica’s Gold Cup win over Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday night.

Richards made his impact on the game by making it 4-1 to the Reggae Boyz in stoppage time.

The striker picked the ball up by the halfway line and strolled forward before taking a speculative effort on goal from distance, which hit a defender and trickled past the stranded goalkeeper.

The goal meant Jamaica earned their first win in Group A to put them on the brink of reaching the knockouts, having drawn with hosts the United States on matchday one. They face Saint Kitts and Nevis on Monday.

“I haven't lost a competitive game for Jamaica, and that is what matters in the end, the competitive matches,” said Reggae Boyz boss Heimir Hallgrimsson after his first win in charge.

“I'm pretty sure this team will grow, as a lot of new players are starting to play for us and we've selected some new players, young players, etc. We will only grow as the tournament gets older.”
