A poor performance in a start last week against Stuttgart saw Myron Boadu replaced at half-time and knocked out of “A-squad” training this week. Just as he was this past January, Dieter Hecking was unsparing in his remarks. The 60-year-old coach spoke on the matter both to Sky Germany and at his post match press conference.
“We had a topic after the Stuttgart game and talked about it all week,” Hecking began at the presser. “The entire team swore that we didn’t want to see that form again. Then I saw him not adhering to this in training and said ‘this won’t do’.
“He showed me an attitude that I didn’t like,” Hecking continued. “I’m one to hold the team accountable and when one is angry about being left off the ‘A team’, I don’t think that helps contribute to our success.“
“I’m very annoyed about his behavior because he could have definitely helped us today,” Hecking concluded. “But the team concept comes first.“
Then pressed as to whether the 24-year-old could – as he did in January – work his way back into Hecking’s good graces, the German coach answered in the affirmative. So too did Bochum’s newly appointed personnel chief.
Amid rumors that Jörg Schmadtke would be joining the Revierklub, it was actually former Hertha, Freiburg, 1860 Munich, and Hannover 96 sporting director Dirk Dufner who was installed last week.
“This was a one match decision,” Hecking said. “I spoke with him shortly yesterday. I’ll probably speak to him tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. But this won’t do. We’re not in the situation where one can act out of ego. He thinks he can do it, but the performance against Stuttgart wasn’t good enough.“
“If he puts himself at the service of the team, we can of course make good use of him,” Dufner added. “We have to get him back to a place where he can really help us again.“
