Tam McManus is of the view that Hibernian new boy Dwight Gayle has pedigree and believes that he offers a good option in the forward line for Hibs’ clash with Rangers.
The 34-year-old centre forward left Derby County after the expiry of his contract in July and was a free agent in the market.
David Gray was keen on adding some firepower after Kieran Bowie suffered an injury early in the season and signed Gayle.
Hibs main man Martin Boyle is set to miss out on their upcoming game against Rangers this month after going through surgery, and McManus believes that Gayle could be an option to replace the forward for that clash.
The former Hibs star pointed out that playing for teams like Newcastle United and Crystal Palace in the Premier League shows the quality Gray’s new signing Gayle has.
“Boyle will be a miss at Ibrox but Hibs have a few options now – especially with Dwight Gayle coming in”, McManus wrote in his Daily Record column.
“I know there was chat about him over the summer, but losing Kieran Bowie long term has probably forced them to hit the button.
“There’s no doubt Gayle has pedigree, playing in the Premier League with the likes of Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.”
Gayle has yet to make his debut for Hibs and the Easter Road faithful will be eager to see him get going, ahead of the trip to Ibrox on 29th September.
