Roma star Paulo Dybala returned to Italy on Wednesday night after having surgery in London to repair a torn tendon in his thigh. The attacker hinted that his absence could extend into next season talking to Rete Sport.
“I’m fine, and I’ve heard from Claudio Ranieri. I don’t know if I’ll be with the team in Lecce, as I’ll have to ask the doctors about that. But I think it will be the case in the other matches. I’m not sure whether I’ll return before September. I can walk without crutches, but they advised me to utilize them.”
Dybala went under the knife at the Fortius Clinic in London. Riccardo Torquati, the head of the Italian Federation of Physiotherapists, shed more light on the injury to Corriere dello Sport.
“Roma made an excellent choice about the surgeon and created a high-end team for the recovery and rehabilitation of their athletes within their staff. His comeback will surely be handled with the right timetable and in the best possible way.” “At this stage, it’s not possible to make a detailed estimation about it. It’ll depend on how Dybala responds to the stimulations and the post-op process. The scientific literature says it takes from 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the result of the surgery, the rehab, and the players’ adaptation to the ramp-up in training. A proper evaluation will be possible only after that.”
According to Radio Radio, Roma will fully support Dybala, but the injury will cast a shadow on his future. His absence might jeopardize the activation of the clause that has automatically prolonged his contract in recent years, which would eventually force the parties to sit down and negotiate.
