Fabrizio Romano reports that Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed a deal to sign Belgium and Rennes central defender Arthur Theate.

The deal is said to be worth €16m and €3m in add-ons with Sky Germany reporting that Theate will sign a contract at Frankfurt until either 2028 or 2029. Theate was set to move to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia but the deal collapsed.

It is likely that the 24 year old will be the replacement for William Pacho who left Frankfurt earlier on in the window to join PSG for €45m. Will Frankfurt have failed in their pursuit of PAOK defender Konstantinos Koulierakis, who is close to joining Wolfsburg.

Theate will add much-needed experience to a relatively young Frankfurt defence, barring Robin Koch as he featured regularly not only in Ligue 1 but for Belgium at EURO 2024.

The Belgian will be Frankfurt’s sixth signing of the window as they continue to make themselves one of the best clubs for young players to develop.
