In the home match with St. Pauli, the Eagles will mark Europe Day and promote the importance of unity, diversity and togetherness with an EU-themed captain’s armband.
To mark Europe Day on 9 May, Eintracht Frankfurt’s captain will wear an armband bearing the European flag during Sunday’s home match against FC St. Pauli, thereby reaffirming the club’s commitment to the values of unity, diversity and togetherness celebrated by the member states of the European Union.
For Eintracht, these values are more than just political principles – they form a part of everyday reality. The men’s first-team squad currently features players from 17 different nations, who work alongside each other every day in an atmosphere of community and respect. As a multicultural club with a deep sense of social responsibility, Eintracht Frankfurt are highlighting the importance of a united Europe.
The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the European Commission and is intended to raise public awareness of the importance of Europe Day. As well as the special-edition captain’s armband, additional content on the history and significance of Europe Day will be published on the club’s official channels.
Background
Europe Day celebrates the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950, which laid the foundation for the European Union in its current form. It symbolises peace, unity and shared responsibility across national borders.
By taking part, Eintracht Frankfurt are issuing a reminder that football is not just a game, but a sport that brings people and nations together.
