The former Rams defender, who departed for Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion in January for up to £9m, showed his continued connection to his boyhood club by responding with a simple heart emoji to Harness' emotional Instagram post after his loan spell at Pride Park came to an end.

Harness proved instrumental towards the business end of Derby's successful battle against relegation, after initially struggling for form under previous manager Paul Warne.

Following John Eustace's appointment, Harness transformed into the player Derby fans were initially expecting him to be, thriving in a more advanced role alongside Jerry Yates as a second striker rather than in his previous experimental positions under Warne.

Harness' farewell message to Derby County supporters

Harness took to social media on May 11th to bid farewell to Rams fans after his season-long loan from Ipswich Town concluded.

His crucial contributions were particularly evident in Derby's vital winning run in March, when he scored three goals in two games, including a match-winning brace against Plymouth Argyle that secured a precious away victory, Derby's third win of that week.

"Rams, it's been a pleasure, thank you for having me! It was a big job to get it done in the end but I had a great time fighting until the very last day with you all. Thank you for the support throughout the good and the bad! Up the Rams 🐏🤍," wrote Harness via Instagram.

The 29-year-old forward's post acknowledged the challenging nature of Derby's relegation battle, which ultimately ended successfully with Championship survival under John Eustace's management.

Cashin, who made 144 appearances for Derby before his East Sussex move, responded with a simple "❤️" to his former teammate's message, showing his continued support and affection for both the player and his former club.

Cashin's Brighton move and Derby County connections

Cashin's reaction demonstrates the strong bonds formed at Pride Park despite the defender having moved on to Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this season.

The 23-year-old central defender left Derby in January 2025, bringing an end to his long association with the club where he rose through the academy ranks.

Despite joining Fabian Hürzeler's Brighton side, Cashin has found Premier League minutes hard to come by, as he continues to adjust to life at the highest level. The defender has made just one appearance for the Seagulls since his winter transfer.

The Irishman's development at Derby County was impressive, with his performances earning him inclusion in the PFA League One Team of the Year during the club's promotion-winning 2023/24 campaign.

With Derby having secured their Championship status, Cashin's show of support hints at the positive environment created at Pride Park despite the season's challenges.
