MIAMI — The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Seychelles 2025™ continued Tuesday, as El Salvador fell to Italy 5-nil in Group D at The Paradise Arena in Victoria, Seychelles.
La Selecta entered the encounter with hopes of advancing to the knockout stage. Italy also had sights on finishing with one of the top two spots in the group, making for a direct elimination encounter.
Jose Portillo struck from long range in the 6’ 1P to force a save from the opposing goalkeeper as El Salvador sought the opening goal. Heber Ramos had a chipped attempt in the 4’ 1P but was saved by Leandro Casapieri.
Italy took the lead through Gianmarco Genovali in the 4’ 1P and closed the opening period with a goal from Luca Bertacca in the 1’ 1P.
The Europeans extended their lead with goals from Genovali in the 4’ 2P and Josep Junior Gentilin in the 1’ 2P. Emmanuele Zurlo in the 7’ 3P closed the scoring for the Italians.
El Salvador exits its sixth participation in the tournament with three defeats as the fourth-place team in Group D. Brazil and Italy advance to the quarterfinals as the first and second teams in the group.
Guatemala, the only other Concacaf nation in the 2025 edition, exited the tournament on Monday as the third place in Group A.
