Wolfsburg are still searching the transfer market for a successor to Xaver Schlager, according to Kicker.
The 24-year-old joined fellow Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last month for a reported €12m as he entered the final year of his contract. Wolfsburg’s need for a replacement comes after Yannick Gerhardt suffered a ligament injury during pre-season training, although it’s now yet known how long the 28-year-old will be sidelined for.
Aster Vranckx (19), who played 24 Bundesliga games last season, could replace Schlager but there’s also doubts on the future of Josuha Guilavogui (31) and Elvis Rexhbecaj (24), both of whom spent last season out on loan and has 12 months remaining on their current Wolfsburg contracts.
VfL have been fairly active this summer under Niko Kovač and we can still expect them to be busy.
