Empoli were willing to postpone Fiorentina in Coppa Italia for Bove | OneFootball

Fiorentina have confirmed that their scheduled Coppa Italia match against Empoli on Wednesday night will go ahead as normal, even though Empoli were willing to postpone the fixture until a later date after Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch during La Viola’s match against Inter on Sunday.

Bove collapsed off the ball in the 17th minute of the Fiorentina-Inter match on Sunday night and was taken to the nearby Careggi hospital where he was admitted to intensive care. The club have since confirmed that the 22-year-old is ‘awake, alert and oriented’ and that diagnostic tests are ‘still ongoing’.

Though the Fiorentina-Inter match is unlikely to be replayed until February 2025 at the earliest, Raffaele Palladino and his players will be back in action again on Wednesday for their of this season’s Coppa Italia, against Empoli.

Fiorentina confirmed that Bove had spoken to his teammates via a video call and that the team began to prepare for the Empoli game at Viola Park on Monday afternoon as a result.

Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi, meanwhile, told Radio Bruno earlier in the day that his club would have been prepared to postpone and make alternative arrangements for the Coppa Italia match had Fiorentina not wanted to play.

“We have to align ourselves with whatever decision is made. We stand in solidarity with Fiorentina and I know it will not be easy,” Corsi said earlier on Monday.

“We would have nothing against it if they decided to postpone Wednesday’s Coppa Italia match,” he confirmed.
