Southampton has emerged as the biggest contender to reunite with fan favourite Danny Ings.
Recently, Southampton have completed Victor Udoh's signing to improve their attacking squad depth. Still, the impressive Nigerian is only 22-years-old and needs a lot of mentoring before he becomes capable of strengthening the striker department.
As such, a proven Premier League centre forward is still needed who can share the goalscoring load with Paul Onuachu. That is much easier said than done because Southampton isn't an attractive destination for world class strikers.
A possible option could be to lure in-form forwards from other leagues on lucrative contracts. Still, the Saints wouldn't want to take a big risk by shelling out hefty transfer fees in the final hours of the transfer window.
Well, don't worry as Southampton has been provided a cost effective solution lately.
According to a report from Daily Mirror writer David Anderson, the Saints are weighing up a reunion with Danny Ings.
In his own words, Anderson said: "If Southampton re-sign Danny Ings from West Ham following Evan Ferguson's arrival for the Hammers, that may soften their stance on Leeds' strong interest in Archer."
Honestly, Danny Ings' mention refills a sense of nostalgia among Southampton fans. The English number nine played three years at St. Mary's and quickly became one of the key players under Ralph Hassenhuttl.
Hence, the Saints shouldn't delay much in approaching West Ham for Ings. Notably, the report also mentioned Cameron Archer's potential exit if Ings links up with Ivan Juric's side.
