Iceland stunned England once again, this time with a 1-0 win at Wembley.

Unsurprisingly, England dominated possession in the opening minutes but it was Iceland who opened the scoring through Jón Þorsteinsson.

Following a quick break, the ball came to the winger who then cut past John Stones before firing past Aaron Ramsdale. Should the Arsenal keeper have done better?

Harry Kane missed a good chance to equalise shortly after but that was about it until half-time as Iceland proved a tough nut to crack.

England stepped things up in the second half and Cole Palmer really should have levelled things up when he was put through one on one. However, he went too far away from goal and couldn’t find the net.

The introduction of Trent Alexander-Arnold gave the Three Lions more of a spark but they still couldn’t force a save out of Hákon Valdimarsson.

Iceland held out with relative ease for another famous win over England, who will have to shape up ahead of next Sunday’s opener against Serbia.

Scotland stumble at Hampden

Scorers: Hoskonen (OG) 54′, Shackland 58′; Kallman 72′, Antman (pen) 85′

Scotland were pegged back from a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Finland at Hampden Park.

They started the stronger with much of the ball in the opening 20 minutes although Finland did give them a scare or two.

The first half came and went without the hosts making any real chances despite a decent tempo to their game. The sight of an injured Lyndon Dykes only added to the feeling that goals were lacking in the side.

Goals arrived shortly into the second half. First, Arttu Hoskonen turned the ball into his own net when trying to clear Andy Robertson’s dangerous cross before Lawrence Shackland nodded home from another ball in by the Liverpool full back.

Finland pulled one back in the 72nd minute through Benjamin Kallman, who headed home unmarked from a corner.

They levelled things up with five minutes to go from the spot, the brilliantly named Oliver Antman putting it straight down the middle and past a diving Craig Gordon.

Germany leave it late to defeat the Greeks

Scorers: Havertz 56′, Groß; Masouras 34′ 89′

Germany came from behind to beat Greece 2-1 in Monchengladbach as their European Championship hopes continue to gather momentum.

While Julien Nagelsmann’s side had more of the ball, it was Greece who fashioned the better chances in the opening 25 minutes with Manuel Neuer making a fine double save early on.

Gus Poyet’s men got the goal their play deserved just after the half hour, Giorgos Masouras tapping home after Neueur made a mess of Christos Tzolis’ deflected effort.

The hosts (both tonight and in the EUROs) equalised 11 minutes into the second half through Kai Havertz. The Arsenal man did very well to swivel and shoot after the ball came to in the box from Leroy Sané.

Germany grabbed the winner with just a minute of the 90 left. The ball was cleared by the Greek defence only as far as Pascal Groß, who angled in half-volley to send the fans home happy and with spirits high for their opener against Scotland next Friday.
