England ‘motivated’ to improve in every game says Wiegman after victory in Latvia | OneFootball

England head coach Sarina Wiegman says that her side are motivated to better themselves in every game that they play.

The Lionesses hammered Latvia 10-0 in Riga this evening to make it four wins out of four in FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying.

What has been noticeable from every game that England have played under Wiegman is their willingness to score goals and never loosen their grip on their opponents, even when games are already won.

Speaking about the Lionesses’ qualities after the win in Riga, Wiegman said that her team are motivated to continuously improve on their level of performance.

“What I learn is that we are very motivated,” Wiegman said when speaking in the post-match press conference. “The situation was totally different tonight to what it was on Saturday but we just want to improve ourselves and get ourselves to a higher level regardless of the opposition.

“When we know that we are the better team, we pay attention to moving the ball, switching the field, having good crosses, having positioning in the penalty area and of course, trying to score as many goals as possible.

“We get some positives out of games like this but the main thing is that we just want to improve ourselves in every game.”

Ella Toone netted a first England hat-trick in the game and Wiegman said that the player has the talent to flourish in the team and she is in control of her own destiny.

The England boss said “She’s a very talented player and since I was appointed, she has obviously played. I think she can do well because the whole team are performing well.

“We have spoken about tasks and how we want to play and she does well but so do some of the other players.

“I don’t know how good she is or how good she will become, that is up to her, but she is very talented, that is very obvious. I am happy that she got her hat-trick.”

England are back in action on Saturday 27 November when they host Austria at The Stadium of Light in Sunderland.
