According to Voetbal International, Erick Gutierrez wants to leave PSV Eindhoven after five years at the club. The Mexican midfielder has made 138 appearances in all competitions since joining from Pachuca in 2018. Having fallen out of favour at the Philips Stadion, Gutiérrez wants to depart at the end of the season.
Although Gutierrez has featured in 27 Eredivisie matches this season, the 27-year-old has only been in the starting line-up on 12 occasions. Ruud van Nistelrooy has opted to play Ibrahim Sangare and Joey Veerman in midfield, over Erick Gutierrez. Last season, under the management of Roger Schmidt, Gutierrez played 39 times across all competitions and started in 31 of those matches.
Gutierrez featured as a substitute during PSV’s KNVB Cup final victory over Ajax last Sunday. The midfielder was brought on during extra time, just 20 minutes before his side went on to be victorious in the penalty shootout. Gutierrez scored in last year’s cup final when PSV beat Ajax 2-1. In total, he’s scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists during his time at the club.
At 27 years old, Gutierrez reportedly wants to remain in Europe, rather than making the move back to Mexico. The midfielder’s contract at PSV expires in 2025, meaning PSV could ask for a transfer fee of several million euros if he were to leave this summer.
