Manchester United may be dealt a new injury blow to navigate heading into Wednesday’s clash with Ipswich Town.

Indeed, ESPN claims Ruben Amorim has been left ‘sweating’ over Noussair Mazraoui’s condition after the full-back – whom Owen Hargreaves hailed as ‘amazing every time he plays’ – sustained an issue during Saturday’s tumultuous affair at Goodison Park.

He went down in the opening minutes of the match following a coming together with James Tarkowski but was able to recuperate and play 70 minutes – after which Amorim was forced to pull him from the action.

Mazraoui ‘complained of discomfort in his right knee’, prompting Amorim to abolish his initial plans of replacing Matthijs de Ligt with Leny Yoro by withdrawing the Moroccan instead. He proceeded to receive treatment inside the changing rooms on Merseyside and will undergo further assessments today to determine his availability for the midweek fixture.

After a fortnight of playing only once a week, United will now return to their usual schedule of matches every three/four days until the mid-March international break, with key ties in the FA Cup and Europa League last-16 on the horizon.

Mazraoui adds to United’s growing absentee list

As such, further injury concerns are the last thing Amorim needs given that he’s already without integral starters Amad Diallo, Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo, who recently joined Altay Bayindir, Toby Collyer, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans in the treatment room.

The likes of Mount and Shaw have endured unrelenting fitness setbacks over the last season-and-a-half, with the former yet to even oversee a consistent run of action since his £50 million switch from Chelsea last summer.

Meanwhile, February 18 marked an entire year since Shaw’s last start for United – despite him featuring for England throughout their Euro 2024 campaign. He has made only three appearances this season, totalling just 98 minutes on the pitch.
