Estevao eyes No. 10 role at Chelsea, Joao Felix future in doubt

Despite receiving criticism for their scatter-gun transfer approach, Chelsea have made some exciting signings since the arrival of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital Consortium in May 2022.
The Blues signed South American wonderkids Andrey Santos, Kendry Paez, and Estevao Willian and purchased Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP.
Chelsea believe these talents will set them up to perform over the next decade. However, the Blues might inevitably have to sell players to make way for all these talents.
Estevao is coming to Stamford Bridge this summer and, despite playing on the right wing for Palmeiras, is looking to feature as a No. 10 in West London.
Estevao’s agent, Andre Cury, said (via Globo): “Chelsea was the only club that saw Estevao as a 10 to play in the midfield. I could be wrong, but we will have the opportunity.”
“I think we will be right. So that also had a lot of weight on the decision.”
This is not the first time the player and his agent have mentioned playing as a number 10. They hope to find space behind Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer, who currently occupies the position.
However, their comments could spell danger for Joao Felix, who is on loan at AC Milan. Signed for £46.3 million this summer, he struggled to displace Palmer and left on loan.
With Estevao joining Chelsea, Felix might have to leave for game time again. The Portuguese international has not impressed the Rossoneri enough to consider signing him permanently and may be surplus to requirement at Chelsea.
Cury’s comments could spell doom for Felix as the Brazilian is bidding to usurp his place in the team.
It does not help his case that Paez will also be asking for a look-in, but it is more likely the Ecuadorian starlet will head out to Strasbourg on loan.
