Having felt he has added a new steel and physicality to his game while out on loan, Ethan Robson wants an opportunity this season to show it.
The local lad has been on the books at Sunderland since the age of eight but spent the latter half of last season at Dundee in Scotland.
While the team struggled, Robson performed well, highlighting the positive changes he has made, while calling for a chance to prove himself.
“More than anything else, I think the loan improved me physically,” the 22-year-old said, quoted by the Sunderland Echo.
“It is a physical league in Scotland so I definitely feel I improved that aspect of my game, winning second balls and making tackles.
“My spell away definitely helped. Now I have to try to impress as much as I can. I’m trying to work as hard as I can every day.
“I’m coming back a better player to show the gaffer what I’m all about. There’s a lot of competition in midfield so it is important to catch his eye.
“Hopefully I can impress him and get a good run of games because I feel I have improved.”
Robson certainly made the most of his early opportunity in a pre-season win over local side South Shields, getting on the score sheet in a 2-0 victory.
