Euro 2022: Spanish sub Misa Rodriguez booked after ‘embarrassing’ touchline outburst | OneFootball

Spain’s dramatic defeat to England in the quarter-finals of Euro 2022 was too much to take for goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez.

Footage has emerged of Spain’s substitute goalkeeper kicking out at a water bucket on the side of the pitch after Ella Toone’s late equaliser in normal time.

Spain had opened the scoring early in the second half through striker Esther Gonzalez but failed to hold on to their lead.

Many of the Spanish side were angered by the decision to award Toone’s goal, claiming foul play in the build-up. Yet, it was Rodriguez who reacted the strongest to the incident.

In a clip posted on Twitter, the Real Madrid keeper is seen kicking a nearby water bucket in frustration, the contents of which appeared to be empty.

Rodriguez appeared to be booked for her actions and was seen arguing with officials.

As expected, social media was quick to react to the video and the clip has been shared more than 1000 times so far.

The original tweet was captioned: “No context Euros, England vs Spain.”

Meanwhile, a second put: “Lmao. So this is why she got the yellow.”

Some couldn’t believe that Rodriguez had kicked the bucket that hard. One wrote: “Mate she nearly broke her foot.”

Others chose to condemn Rodriguez’s behaviour. “Embarrassing behaviour”, stressed another user.

England’s remarkable comeback

Sarina Wiegman’s side were the favourites ahead of the game, having won all three of their games group games without conceding a single goal.

Yet, they were second best for the majority of the match, with Spain’s relentless pressing game pinning the Lionesses back in their own half and stopping the likes of Beth Mead and Lauren Hemp from having an impact on the game.

Having gone into the half-time break goalless, Wiegman made no changes and England soon found themselves a goal behind, courtesy of Gonzalez’s strike.

It was only then that England’s manager sent on the re-enforcements, who proved to have a huge impact.

Toone, who came on for Chelsea star Fran Kirby, prodded home with just six minutes of normal time remaining, sending the Amex Stadium into raptures.

Then, in extra-time, Georgia Stanway fired home an unstoppable effort to put the Lionesses in front and Wiegman’s side held on for a historic win.

England will play either Sweden or Belgium in the semi-finals and are now just two wins away from their first ever major tournament silverware.

There is still a long way to go, but England will feel they have more left to give and having eliminated the pre-tournament favourites without playing their best, confidence will be sky high.
