Rasmus Kristensen could put himself in the shop window at Euro 2024 after a season-long spell at Roma, who are unlikely to sign him permanently

The eyes of everyone in England may have been focused on the Three Lions' Euro 2024 opener with Serbia on Sunday, but Leeds United bosses would arguably have been more interested in the other Group C clash, where Slovenia held Denmark to a 1-1 draw in Stuttgart.

The reason behind the Whites' interest in Denmark's fortunes this summer is Rasmus Kristensen, whose future remains uncertain as Leeds approach a critical summer.

Kristensen, who ended up being an unused substitute in the Danes' opening game of Euro 2024, spent last season on loan at Roma along with fellow Whites loanee Diego Llorente.

The Denmark international made 31 appearances for the Giallorossi last term, but Football Insider reported last month that the Serie A club were not looking to sign the 26-year-old permanently this summer.

Football Insider added Kristensen's future may lie away from Elland Road and similar uncertainty surrounds Llorente, who joined Leeds for an estimated £18 million fee from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2020.

The Danish defender moved to Elland Road in the summer of 2022, signing from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee reported to be worth around £10 million, and went on to make 30 appearances in all competitions in his debut season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

But with Leeds relegated to the Championship at the end of his first campaign in Yorkshire, Kristensen joined Roma on loan, with the temporary departure route one that many recent signings took last year.

While the Serie A giants are unlikely to make the deal permanent, the defender has a chance to put himself in the shop window at Euro 2024 with Denmark following his loan spell in Italy - that is if he gets any minutes on the pitch of course.

Kristensen, who has won 21 caps for his country, is under contract at Leeds for another three years but could be among the players leaving Elland Road this summer, as the Whites look to raise funds by offloading players who are surplus to requirements.

The same applies to Max Wober, one of three Leeds players at Euro 2024 along with Kristensen and club captain Liam Cooper, who was an unused substitute in Scotland's 5-1 thrashing against Germany on Friday night.

Like Kristensen, Wober joined from Red Bull Salzburg, but spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach and Leeds will be hoping the Austrian can put himself in the shop window this summer.

Daniel Farke is now planning for another season in the Championship after Leeds fell just short of promotion to the Premier League after finishing third in the league and losing to Southampton in the play-off final.

Failure to seal promotion, coupled with the need to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), means Leeds will in all likelihood have to sacrifice at least one of their prized assets this summer and chairman Paraag Marathe has already stated that the club "need to make trade-offs" in the aftermath of their Wembley defeat.

Conversely, however, it is also worth noting that except Kristensen, Leeds do not have a senior right-back under contract for next season as things stand.

That may mean they still need the Dane for the upcoming season, and it would surely be a risk for them to let him go, without signing another option in that position.
