Euro 2024 is on the horizon and Germany is preparing to host it’s first major tournament since 2006. We’ve got all of the details for the Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf ahead of a summer full of international football.

The Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf will host five games at Euro 2024, including one of the quarter-finals. The stadium is home to Fortuna Düsseldorf, who are currently in the 2. Bundesliga.

Notable Events

The Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf is probably more famous for hosting the 2011 Eurovision Song contest than it is for hosting sporting events. It is officially known as the Merkur Spiel-Arena, but for sponsorship purposes throughout Euro 2024 it will be known as the Düsseldorf Arena.

It was built on the old the site of the Rheinstadion however, a ground that was part of the 1974 World Cup and the 1988 European Championships. Concerts, boxing matches and American Football matach have also been held at the Düsseldorf Arena, with the stadium being the former home of the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe.

The arena also set a world record for hosting the  handball game with the most spectators. 53,586 turned up to watch the game between Germany vs. Switzerland at the European Men’s Handball Championship back in January this year.
