Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has hired bodyguards in the aftermath of last week's derby with Liverpool.
Pickford moved to beef up security at his home after the Merseyside derby on October 17, in which he injured Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.
After escaping any punishment, Pickford came under fire from critics including Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
A source told the Daily Mail: "Jordan has been shocked by the level of abuse he has received since the match. He is determined to do whatever it takes to make sure his family is kept safe."
Pickford has asked a specialist security firm to look after him and his family. Last week bodyguards were guarding the outside of Pickford's £2.5million home in Cheshire, where he lives with his wife Megan and one-year-old son.
Security experts are advising the family to stay off all social media in case they alert people as to their whereabouts.
