The Red Devils announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
The 19-year-old was only able to make three appearances during her time with Everton. Her only outing in the Barclays Women’s Super League came when she briefly entered the field as a late substitute in Everton’s 1-0 win at West Ham United in December.
Manchester United are believed to be keen for the player to get more regular game time and the club will now seek a new opportunity for the next step in her development.
Aherne has spent the last six years of her career with Manchester United after joining the club at the age of 13. She was handed her senior debut in last season’s 4-0 win over Barclays Women’s Championship club Sheffield United in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. Aherne has an exciting future ahead of her but she needs more minutes at senior level to help push her onto the next level.
The next development path for Aherne will be announced by Manchester United in due course.
