Watford have enjoyed a positive start to the season under Tom Cleverley as the former player looks to put his mark on the team following his permanent appointment earlier this year.

The ex-Man Utd man has had to work under difficult circumstances at Vicarage Road, as he hasn’t received the financial backing he maybe would’ve initially expected.

The summer window saw influential duo Ismael Kone and Yaser Asprilla sold for big money, but the Hornets didn’t really reinvest.

Nevertheless, the early weeks have shown that Watford are competitive under Cleverley and it will be interesting to see how they cope over the course of the campaign.

Generally, though, those with the most financial resources will compete at the top of the Championship, which is the case in leagues across the globe, and Watford’s new approach means they aren’t among the big spenders.

And, here we look at the estimated weekly wage of the strikers on Watford’s books, based on estimations from Capology...

Vakoun Bayo - £12,308

27-year-old Vakoun Bayo had spent the past two years with Watford but he actually signed a four-year deal at Udinese this summer before returning to Vicarage Road on loan for this season.

According to Capology, he is on a deal worth over £12,000 a week right now, although it’s unclear what percentage of that Watford will be paying.

Again, it’s worth stressing these are estimates but it would put Bayo in a similar position to many other senior players on the books for the Championship side, which would make sense.

Given his age, Bayo is in his prime, so he will command a decent wage, although fans will no doubt be wanting more from the former Celtic man, as he has only managed one goal in six appearances for the club this season.

Daniel Jebbison - £5,000

Another loanee, Jebbison joined the club from Bournemouth this season.

In truth, the estimated weekly salary by Capology seems on the low side, as Jebbison joined the Cherries as a free agent as his deal with Sheffield United had run down.

Like Bayo, it’s unclear whether this is his overall wage or the percentage that Watford are paying the youngster. However, if they were paying Jebbison just £5,000 a week then most would agree that it would be very shrewd business by the Hornets.

A host of clubs were keen on taking Jebbison on loan this summer, with Bournemouth and the player wanting to ensure he went to a club that could offer first-team football, as it’s crucial that he features regularly for his career development.

So, it was a real coup for Watford to land the striker, and whilst he has yet to get going, Cleverley will expect Jebbison to be a big player this season.

Rocco Vata - £5,000

Whilst Rocco Vata isn’t an out-and-out striker, he is a forward option for Cleverley, and he also only joined the club in the summer window.

The 19-year-old had come through the ranks at Celtic but he was willing to leave in search of first-team football and Capology believe he penned a deal worth £5,000 a week.

Again, there was plenty of competition for his signature, so it was a good deal for Watford, and they convinced Vata about the project, and the fact that they would be able to offer him more game time than other clubs.

So far, he has featured in two Championship games, which includes a first start at Norwich City last time out.
