“Everyone was talking about that – it got to me a bit,” James Forrest

Celtic’s Most Decorated Player James Forrest sat down with the Celtic View editor Paul Cuddihy on the official Celtic FC Podcast to talk about the last week when our ‘Prestwick Pele’ pulled about of our ‘Saltcoats Buzzbomb’ Bobby Lennox to stand alone as the most successful medal winner in the club’s long, proud and unbroken history…

James Forrest, as humble as ever was happy enough talking to Paul Cuddihy who he knows well and who worked with the the 33 year-old winger on his book a few years ago, with Jamesy donating the money made to the Celtic FC Foundation.

An incredible total from two Celtic Academy graduates

On the title win at Tannadice last Saturday, Jamesy talked about having a quiet moment with his great friend and teammate Callum McGregor who is just two medals behind James and is two years younger. The two between them now have 50 winners medals – what an incredible total from two Celtic Academy graduates.

Then there’s the goal Jamesy needs to match Paul McStay’s record as the last Celtic player to score for the club in 15 consecutive seasons. He could sense the crowd willing him to score last Saturday at Tannadice and even his teammates were at it too!

We’ve talked on here about Jamesy scoring a penalty against Ajax in the Champions League in 2013 at Celtic Park and Paul Cuddihy pointed out that he’s actually scored two penalties in his career. James Forrest is one of three players with over 100 goals and assists for Celtic – the other two being Jimmy Johnstone and Henrik Larsson.

“I could even feel it was coming from the players on the park as well”

“I could even feel it was coming from the players on the park as well,” Jamesy said when asked if he could sense the crowd willing him on to score. With the scoreline and the way it was going, I could definitely feel that everyone was egging me on to try and score,” he said.

“After the game, I felt a bit emotional. Normally, I can hide that quite well”

“Hopefully, going into the end of the season, I can try and do that. I think a few folk have joked when we get a penalty for me to hit it, but I’d hope to score in normal time.”

“It shows how successful the club has been since I’ve been here.”

“It’s a great achievement, and it shows how successful the club has been since I’ve been here.”

In order to make sure he was fully fit for the title run-in and the Scottish Cup with the chance of a treble, James took the chance to train with the Celtic B team during the recent international break.

“In the international break, I trained with the B team. It’s boys that are 16 and 17 you’re training with, but I think that’s maybe good for them that I was training with them, and it’s good for me to see the players coming through and what we’ve got here.”
