Walter Novellino offered his verdict on Inter Milan’s thumping 3-0 victory against Serie A minnows Cagliari at the weekend.
Interviewed by Tuttocagliari via FCInter1908, Novellino praised Cagliari’s first-half approach and hailed Inter’s overall strength.
Saturday’s triumph at the Unipol Domus was a carbon copy of Nerazzurri’s 2-0 home win against Como last Monday.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s side couldn’t find a way past Davide Nicola’s defense before halftime.
However, they packed a punch after the break.
Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, and Hakan Calhanoglu sealed Cagliari’s fate in the second 45 minutes.
As a result, Inter stretched their winning streak in Serie A to five games, reducing the distance on Atalanta to a single point.
With a game in hand on Napoli and La Dea, Inzaghi’s men have everything in their hands.
Furthermore, it feels like the Nerazzurri are taking points effortlessly.
Cagliari put in maximum effort but saw their hard work undone by a sheer gulf in class.
“All in all, Cagliari made a good impression on me,” Novellino said. “In the first half, I saw them energetic and on point.
“In the second half, they didn’t replicate the performance of the first half.
“But it’s also true that Inter often ‘aggressively’ dominates the second halves, and it’s in those moments that they close out games.
“Simone Inzaghi’s team, in my opinion, is really strong and, when they want, even overwhelming.
“But I repeat: Cagliari made a great impression in the first forty-five minutes.
“Up front, the Rossoblu are objectively struggling a bit, although Pavoletti is always someone who provides certain guarantees.
“On the other hand, it’s also worth noting that Cagliari doesn’t need to compete with Inter, Milan, or Juventus.
“But with teams like Como, Venezia, and Monza, to be clear. That’s their league.
“Against Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri, it’s normal to lose, perhaps even heavily.”
