Former Atlético Madrid star Samu Omorodion has this weekend opened up on the mental toll his situation at the club had on him over the summer.

Omorodion, for his part, of course took his place front and centre in the headlines across Europe during the transfer window.

As much came after the 20-year-old, fresh off something of a breakout campaign on loan at Deportivo Alavés, made his way into the sights of a number of leading continental clubs.

In the end, it was Portuguese heavyweights Porto who closed a deal for Omorodion, forking over €15 million for 50% of the attacker’s rights.

As alluded to above, though, prior to as much, the frontman endured an altogether difficult time of things, whilst his future in Spain’s capital remained up in the air.

Omorodion was never shy in confirming his desire to succeed in the colours of Atlético, with the club’s active push to sell him over the summer having therefore hit the youngster hard.

Speaking to Marca, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, on Saturday, Omodorion, in turn, admitted:

“At Atlético, I spent many nights crying… my family also struggled. I was training separately, I didn’t even feel like I was a player. It was tough. No one spoke to me, and I didn’t speak to anyone. I already knew the club’s stance…”
