Ex Bayern Munich Star Argues Inter Milan Had ‘Many Chances Besides The Missed Penalty’ In Serie A Draw Vs Napoli | OneFootball

Inter Milan keeper Yann Sommer feels that there were several opportunities for the Nerazzurri to win against Napoli beyond their missed penalty.

The former Bayern Munich keeper spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInterNews, after the 1-1 Serie A draw.

For the first time since he joined Inter, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu missed from the penalty spot.

And it was a very significant miss. The Turkish international had the chance to put Inter 2-1 up in a top-of-the-table showdown with Napoli.

However, that was not the only turning point in the match.

Inter’s penalty came amid a phase in the match where they were putting a lot of pressure on the Napoli backline to try and force a goal to put them ahead in the match.

And there were a number of situations in the Partenopei penalty area where Inter could have scored.

In the end, Napoli held out. Some excellent defending by the Partenopei back four and a bit of a lack of a clinical edge from the Nerazzurri ensured that.

But it was not for any lack of trying by Inter.

“We almost got it done,” Inter keeper Yann Sommer said after the match.

“In the second half we had a lot of chances, some big ones.”

“Not just the penalty,” the Nerazzurri goalkeeper noted.

“Then Napoli had a big one at the end,” Sommer noted. Partenopei substitute Giovanni Simeone blazed over from a very dangerous position.

“Now let’s take this point and take the chance to catch our breath,” Sommer said.

Of Inter’s waning defensive form, Sommer said that it’s a “difficult questions.”

“Opponents play a bit differently against us now,” the Swiss keeper noted. “We always try not to concede goals, but the important thing is the points.”

As far as clean sheets go, Sommer said that “I’ll concede 25 goals if we then go on to win the title.”

“The objective is for us to always defend like we did against Arsenal. But football is tough.”
