Forward Joaquin Correa could still stay at Inter Milan this summer and see out the remaining year on his contract.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

For much of this summer, it has seemed all but a foregone conclusion that Correa would have Inter.

The Argentine was on loan at Marseille last season. However, he failed to score or assist a goal across the entire campaign for the Ligue 1 club.

There was a purchase obligation in that loan deal which would have become an obligation had Marseille qualified for the Champions League. However they did not do so.

Therefore, Correa has been back at Inter. He’s been a part of the squad for all of preseason.

It’s been a mixed preseason for Correa, with a solid performance in the final friendly against Chelsea following some less convincing displays in other friendlies.

Prior to his loan to Marseille, Correa had never really found form across two seasons in an Inter shirt. He had joined from Lazio in the summer of 2021.

Joaquin Correa Could Still Remain At Inter Milan

Despite the sense of inevitability about a Correa exit, the 30-year-old is at Inter with two weeks to go in the transfer window.

And according to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri may simply accept the situation.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has made no secret of the fact that he wants five forwards in the squad.

This season will present a bigger test of the Nerazzurri’s squad depth than ever due to more fixtures with the Champions League and Club World Cup.

Therefore, Inzaghi does not believe that four forwards will be sufficient. Injuries could quickly see that corps stretched thin.

As such, Inter have been keeping an eye on the market for a possible fifth forward.

However, there could be an internal solution.

Inter would not have to do any transfer business to sign Correa. He’s already in the squad.

The former Lazio and Sevilla forward may not be the most glamorous solution. But he knows Inter coach Inzaghi well.

For a purely depth option, Inter could very well decide to stick with Correa for the season.
