Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson has been reportedly ordered to prison after failing to pay child maintenance.

Brazilian news outlet GZH (via talkSPORT) reveal that Anderson has been told he will have to serve time in the Irmao Miguel Dario Prison jail in the city of Porto Alegre unless he pays up the £45,000 he owes.

It’s understood that he could be locked away for 30 days.

Anderson was informed of the court ultimatum last Thursday by a family court judge.

The 36-year-old has been offered the option of doing his prison sentence in a “semi-open” regime. This alternative would see the former United man work or study outside the jail during the day but return to sleep at night.

This is not the first time Anderson has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

In 2021, he was accused of laundering £4.7million through cryptocurrencies. He was named as one of eight people under investigation by a state prosecutor for his involvement in a scheme designed to divert the cash from the state stock exchange.

It’s currently unclear whether this inquiry remains ongoing or whether Anderson managed to clear his name.

The Brazilian is believed to be the after of nine children.

Anderson won an amazing four Premier League titles during his extremely successful eight-year tenure at Old Trafford.

He joined the Red Devils from Porto in July 2007. He also played for Fiorentina in Italy and Internacional in his homeland before hanging up his boots aged just 31.

At United, he didn’t really live up to his potential, with Ben Forster previously revealing that the no-nonsense Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to hit the midfielder with a stick

Anderson was capped eight times at senior level by Brazil.
