Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the jewel in Arsenal’s crown has agreed to a three-year deal, which is rumoured to be somewhere in the region of £250,000 plus with incentivised bonuses but where’s the signature and press release?
As uncertainty spreads between the supporters, a source close to the club has said that the closure of the process is purely down to balancing the books and the club are looking at selling off three players quickly to get the prized signature of their best player and captain.
It’s thought that Stan Kroenke has been personally contacted and updated on the situation and that all parties just have to get around the table to get it done once the funding is available. The dynamic has certainly changed with the news that Mesut Özil intends to see out his contract at the Emirates, which has meant that the club had to re-examine their finances all over again.
However, you can expect movement next week as Kroenke either rubber stamps the Aubameyang deal without the sale of Arteta’s unwanted players or the players in question move on. There have been firm enquiries for three players on that list and it may well be a case of one deal facilitating another.
The club aren’t in a hurry because they believe the deal is 98% done, but fans will be more concerned about that 2% and the time it’s taking to make an announcement. Arsenal dare not start a new season without Aubameyang, they know that only too well and I still maintain that this deal will get across the line even though, it has been a complicated deal for the player and club.
This is Aubameyang’s last big deal of his career and that wasn’t going to get signed off quickly, but the fact that Arsenal were out of the Champions League, forced into lockdown and ended up outside the top four couldn’t have come at a worse time.
It would have been a long-winded affair before those factors but the club is also mindful of the last contract extension they made. Arsenal can’t afford another mistake of that nature.
One thing I will add is that Arsenal need to calm the nerves of fans as soon as possible with the start of the season fast approaching on September 12th.
