League Two rivals Carlisle United and Bromley have both had bids for Barnet winger Idris Kanu rejected, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
The wideman has scored one goal and created two assists in the fifth tier this season for a Bees side who sit just one point behind league leaders Forest Green Rovers following Saturday afternoon's 3-0 win at Southend United.
Formerly an EFL player, who has plied his trade for Peterborough United, Port Vale and, more recently, endured a loan spell with Northampton Town, Kanu first joined the Bees in 2022.
After arriving at Barnet during the summer of 2022, the Sierra Leone international notched 10 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions during the 2022/23 season.
Kanu subsequently scored seven goals in 34 National League outings last term, helping the Bees finish in the play-offs, where they lost out to Solihull Moors.
His efforts this term have helped place the Bees in the title race, with just 19 games left to play, while he was also able to test his skills up against an EFL outfit back in November, when Dean Brennan's side took on League One Exeter City.
Clearly impressed by his performances in the fifth tier, both Carlisle and Bromley are vying to hand Kanu his first taste of League Two action, since he made seven appearances for Northampton during an aforementioned loan spell in 2021/22, but have seen their transfer bids rejected by the National League side so far.
Earlier in the 2021/22 campaign, the 25-year-old also made five Championship appearances for Peterborough, while he also helped the Posh on their way to automatic promotion from League One in 2021, scoring two goals in 17 third tier outings.
It is clear to see why Carlisle are looking to acquire the services of Kanu, as League Two's bottom club are in dire need of reinforcements amid their efforts to avoid back-to-back relegations.
Meanwhile, Andy Woodman's men sit in a much healthier 11th spot in the fourth tier table, but the EFL newboys will be keen to flex their financial muscles in the transfer market, following a lucrative FA Cup third round tie with Premier League Newcastle United.
However, as portrayed by the bids for Kanu they have already rejected, the Bees will be very keen to retain their man, as they look to return to League Two for the first time since suffering relegation from the fourth tier at the end of a challenging 2017/18 campaign.
