Chelsea are understood to have cooled their interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as they instead make Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens their top target.

Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Chelsea made contact over signing Garnacho in January, but are now focusing on Gittens for this summer.

However, there is no shortage of suitors for Garnacho as Man Utd remain open to selling the Argentina international for a suitable offer.

CaughtOffside understands that Napoli remain keen on Garnacho after also showing a strong interest back in January, and there will be at least four other clubs chasing him as well.

We can name those as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Bayer Leverkusen.

Should Manchester United sell Alejandro Garnacho?

It remains to be seen if United could live to regret letting Garnacho go, with the 20-year-old clearly rated very highly by a number of top clubs.

Still, he’s been pretty inconsistent during his time at Old Trafford, and Ruben Amorim might have his own players in mind as he looks to make changes to this struggling squad he’s inherited from Erik ten Hag.

It certainly wouldn’t have been wise letting a big talent like Garnacho go to a rival like Chelsea, but since his main suitors are now abroad, it might be less of a risk.

Chelsea prefer Jamie Gittens over Alejandro Garnacho

It’s not entirely clear why Chelsea are now prioritising Gittens over Garnacho, but Blues fans will perhaps feel it’s the right call.

Garnacho might have big potential, but he’s not really done enough in a United shirt, especially this season, to justify making him a key player at Stamford Bridge.

Gittens arguably looks like he has a higher ceiling, so that could be the best option for CFC as they look for upgrades on the likes of Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.
