Danny Mills claims that the Leeds United dressing room will be “split” when it comes to the debate over whether Patrick Bamford or Eddie Nketiah should be starting games.

The former Leeds and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the rest of the squad may have differing views about who they would rather play alongside on a matchday.

Bamford has started every one of Leeds’ 14 Championship fixtures so far but has now gone nine goals without hitting the back of the net, a run which was extended in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

With Nketiah having proven himself as a capable goal scorer off the bench, as well as with the England under-21s, Mills says there might be a divide in the Leeds dressing room over who the players think should be handed a start by Marcelo Bielsa.

Asked what the mood would be in the dressing room, Mills told Football Insider: “I think it’ll be split from time to time, but if Bamford’s in the team then he’s in the team on merit and everybody in that team will understand why he’s in the team and what he’s doing.

“Yes, occasionally they’ll be thinking: ‘Get Nketiah on a fraction earlier,’ to give him the opportunity but they’re still doing well, they (were) second in the table.”

Nketiah has managed to net three goals in his nine substitute appearances in the Championship, with the young Arsenal loanee still waiting for his first league start since moving to Elland Road.

Leeds’ next outing will see them take on Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road, the London-based side four places and two points behind the Whites.
