Speaking exclusively with FLW, Don Goodman has been discussing who his number one candidate would be to become the new Cardiff City manager.
Cardiff City are now on the hunt for a new permanent manager, following the sacking of Omer Riza over the Easter weekend.
The 45-year-old was relieved of his duties following the Bluebirds' 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Good Friday, with the 45-year-old having taken over from Erol Bulut earlier in the season.
Injured Cardiff midfielder Aaron Ramsey was placed in interim charge of the team for the final games of the season, with the club sitting in a perilous position in the Championship relegation zone.
City sit 23rd in the table with just two games to go, and are three points adrift of 21st-placed Derby County, as well as 22nd-placed Luton Town respectively.
Speaking exclusively with Football League World, we asked Sky Sports pundit and former player, Don Goodman: 'Who would be your number one candidate to replace Omer Riza in the summer at Cardiff? Des Buckingham? Rob Edwards? Aaron Ramsey?'
Goodman said: "I think there are some credible candidates out there for Cardiff City.
"But, when you look at it, it's not the most attractive job in the world for anybody of genuine repute, really.
"So, if you're Des Buckingham or if you're Rob Edwards, you may feel, particularly in Rob Edwards' case, that if you're patient you might get a better opportunity than that.
"If you're Aaron Ramsey, I know that your love of Cardiff could potentially sway it. I know he's highly regarded, Aaron Ramsey. I know he's done most of the coaching badges.
"Obviously, as a Cardiff boy, he would clearly want to do the best by them, which at the moment means trying to save them. If they do go down, or even if they stay up, maybe improving their fortunes."
Regardless of whether Cardiff City are operating as a Championship, or especially as a League One club next season, hiring a manager who's taken a club with smaller respective resources such as Luton Town to the Premier League, would surely be one that would excite many Bluebirds fans.
Despite having accomplished that feat, and having guided Forest Green Rovers to a League Two title-winning season in 2021/22, Edwards is still only 42-years old.
He's proven that he can work highly effectively on a smaller budget, implement a successful tactical approach, and has clearly shown himself to be a manager that his players loved playing for.
As such, despite his and Luton's struggles this season, there is evidently still a very exciting and quality manager in there, and given his Welsh links, the opportunity to take over Cardiff City could be very tempting on a personal level.
However, Edwards will also be holding out for the best possible opportunity from a managerial standpoint, and should the Bluebirds slip into League One, that could take them off the table.
But, he could see Cardiff as a similar project to that of Luton in some regards, should they stay in the Championship.
