Norwich City have offered a new contract to playmaker Emi Marcondes, Football League World has learned
Norwich City have presented a new contract offer to playmaker Emi Marcondes, Football League World understands.
The Canaries are poised to spend the 2025/26 campaign in the Championship after falling short of competing for a play-off place in Johannes Hoff Thorup's debut season.
They are keen, however, to retain as many prized assets as possible. Norwich will surely demand significant sums in order to part with star duo Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent, while they are eager to ensure Marcondes' future lies at Carrow Road.
The Danish midfielder joined Norwich back in October, signing a contract until the end of the season. Norwich have an option to extend his contract by a further year, although they seemingly intend on keeping him at the club for longer by presenting an outright contract offer instead.
Sources close to FLW have revealed that a new contract has been offered to Marcondes, as we head into the closing stages of the season.
For now at least, the length of the Canaries' proposal or whether Marcondes will certainly accept it both remain unclear.
Last month, though, Marcondes made his thoughts clear on his future at Norwich. The ex-Brentford and Bournemouth midfielder told Danish outlet Tipsbladet that he could see himself staying in Norfolk if the offer is right, but that he wanted to receive a contract offer from the club at some stage in March.
Norwich did not put a new offer on the table for Marcondes last month, but a decision has now been made on the 30-year-old's stay.
Marcondes has impressed in the Championship this season, registering four goals and six assists from 30 appearances, and Norwich are now taking action to keep him at the club beyond the current campaign.
He has offered Thorup's side a goalscoring presence from midfield, and his efforts have often been overlooked by the superb, match-winning displays from the likes of Sainz and Sargent.
But Marcondes, a two-time promotion-winner with Brentford and the Cherries, has shown he still has what it takes to be a top performer at Championship level.
That experience and pedigree could, of course, be all-important for Norwich in 25/26 and beyond, as they look to make a better fist of it with regards to their ambitions of returning to the Premier League.
