Crystal Palace have won their first major piece of silverware after defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

After previous agonising final defeats, Palace were at last looking to lift the cup and they did so in a final that was full of controversy and entertainment.

Dean Henderson was at the centre of most of the day's action and he was needed to deny Erling Haaland early on.

The winning goal came early on in the game through a quick attack that saw Daniel Muñoz released on the right and the Colombian's low cross was converted by Eberechi Eze.

The big moment of controversy when Henderson hand balled outside the box as Haaland was bearing down on goal. A foul was called but the goalkeeper did, controversially, avoid a red card even after a VAR check.

VAR was under scrutiny shortly afterwards when  Tyrick Mitchell was judged to have fouled Bernardo Silva in the penalty area. A penalty was given and VAR confirmed the decision despite replays suggesting Mitchell got the ball from the Portuguese playmaker.

With Haaland having missed penalties already this season, it was Omar Marmoush who stepped up but Henderson kept it out to keep his side in the lead.

Palace thought they had doubled their lead through Muñoz who finished from close range following a long throw. The Citizens breathed a sigh of relief though when VAR intervened once again to rule the goal out.

Pep Guardiola's side had plenty of possession, as is typical, but they simply couldn't find a way through a Palace defence that was determined to lift the cup.
