The English Football Association (FA) want to ban West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta for life, according to a report from the Sun.

The Brazilian was charged with breaking betting rules last month after being accused of deliberately getting booked while playing for the Hammers.

The 26-year-old has denied the charges and is adamant he is innocent.

But Paqueta could be banned for life if found guilty, as the FA has recommended severe punishment.

The talented winger has been accused of deliberately getting booked in four Premier League games to make money for his friends.

Around sixty people placed bets on him to be booked, with the stakes ranging from £7 to £400.

Paqueta has been one of the most important players for West Ham since arriving at the club in 2022.

He has bagged 13 goals and 14 assists in 84 senior appearances for the Hammers.

His performances attracted the attention of Manchester City, who were reportedly ready to activate his £85 million release clause this summer.

However, the betting scandal means the transfer is unlikely to happen now.
