The Fabian Hurzeler Newcastle United press conference has taken place.
The Brighton boss speaking to journalists on Friday morning.
This is ahead of Sunday’s game at St James’ Park.
When either Newcastle United or Brighton will progress into the last eight of the FA Cup.
Fabian Hurzeler Newcastle United press conference – 28 February 2025:
Fabian Hurzeler asked whether Brighton captain Lewis Dunk will be back from injury on Sunday:
“Of course we are looking forward to our skipper being back but I think that the game on Sunday will be a little bit too early.”
Hurzeler also confirmed that another defender, Joel Veltman, wouldn’t be available either. Though Eiran Cashin will be in the squad.
Fabian Hurzeler asked about the possibility of winning the FA Cup, especially with a number of top Premier League clubs already eliminated, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea:
“On the one hand, for sure when fewer top clubs are in the tournament, the chance is bigger.
“On the other hand, we know the cups always have their own laws, their own rules. You don’t know what will come next. Anything can happen.
“This competition has already proved it so far this season, a lot of crazy results.”
Fabian Hurzeler asked whether it is his ambition to bring some silverware to Brighton:
“First of all, that’s my job.
“I always try to give everything to the club, of course I always want the club to be the most successful we can be.
“That is my job, together with the staff and players, therefore we try to do that.
“We promise everyone that we will try to give everything on the pitch and beside the pitch to make them proud.
“But we can’t promise to win a title.
“That’s the thing that we work on and the thing we try to do in our daily behaviour and then we will see what will come in the future.”
Fabian Hurzeler on doubts whether Alexander Isak will be available whether the striker’s inclusion in the Newcastle United squad would change Brighton’s approach to Sunday:
“Alexander Isak is a special player.
“A player who can make the difference.
“You can’t replace a player like this because not every team has two, three or four players of this quality.
“Therefore, it is a different game if he won’t play, but the thing is, now we don’t know that, so we really have to prepare as if Isak will start.
“We have to prepare for his actions, for his behaviour, how we want to defend this together as a group.
