Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has just put Chelsea back in a key position to sign a former player in the summer transfer window.
The news comes off the back of Chelsea getting an essential three points on Saturday afternoon by beating Everton 1-0 at home after a fantastic first half goal from striker Nicolas Jackson ending his 2025 goal draught.
It was far from an easy game for Chelsea though, and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez became the unlikely hero and was actually the reason that they could see the win out and collect all three points, making some big second half saves to deny certain goals.
Another one of Chelsea’s best players on the pitch was defender Trevoh Chalobah and really, he was a strong candidate for man of the match too. Enzo Maresca defended Chelsea’s decision to let him go on loan in the summer after then recalling him in the winter.
As well as letting Chalobah go before signing him back, Chelsea also sold Marc Guehi to Crystal Palace not long ago which is probably another decision that many feel they got wrong. And since then, they’ve been linked with wanting to bring him back, ironically!

The transfer expert posted on X yesterday with an update on the future of Guehi, and he puts Chelsea back in there as a potential new destination for the England international.
Romano wrote:’Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle remain all keen on signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as he’s been on their lists for months. There’s also a possibility Guehi goes on free transfer in 2026 if a deal can’t be agreed this summer.’
It will be interesting to see what happens with this one now.
