Ipswich striker Liam Delap has insisted he’s fully focused on the club amid rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea.

Delap was a constant threat as Ipswich beat Chelsea 2-0 on Monday night as he bullied the Blues defence, winning and scoring a penalty, whilst he also set up Omari Hutchinson for his goal.

The 21-year-old has made an impressive start to the season in a struggling side, who have won just three games all season, and he’s got seven goals and two assists in 18 appearances.

Delap speaks on transfer rumours

Delap joined Ipswich in the summer in a deal worth £20m, but he’s already been linked with a move away, with Chelsea said to be monitoring the striker.

Enzo Maresca knows Delap well having coached him at Manchester City, where he came through the ranks and was part of the same team that won the Premier League 2 title with current Chelsea stars Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer.

Maresca is a big fan of Delap and publicly praised him both before and after the defeat to the Tractor boys and he’s very much a profile of striker Chelsea could do with adding to their squad.

Delap is strong and physical, whilst he’s also good in the air and offers a presence in the box, which is something Chelsea lack.

A move makes sense given his City upbringing and the fact he knows both Maresca and Joe Shields, but Delap has insisted he’s fully focused on Ipswich.

“I don’t really look at things like that,” he said in words cited on X.com.

“So, yes, I’m just focused on Ipswich. We [along with Hutchinson] are lucky to be playing in the Premier League. I think we’ve got a great opportunity here at Ipswich and we’re just trying to show our ability week in, week out, that’s a big plus for me.”

Chelsea are expected to be quiet in January and any move for Delap most likely wouldn’t happen until the summer, whilst it’s also worth waiting to see how he does over the second half of the season, but he certainly looks a handful for opposition defenders.
