‘Fantastic’ Utd star has ‘suffered a small setback’ pre-Lyon – but experienced Red returns to bolster Amorim’s options

Manchester United took to Carrington this morning to undergo their final preparations ahead of their most pivotal fixture of the season thus far.
The Red Devils host Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday evening in the second leg of the sides’ Europa League quarter-final. The scoreline is tied level at 2-2 heading into the clash, so it really is all to play for at Old Trafford.
In terms of the options Ruben Amorim will have at his disposal for the tie, Chris Wheeler has confirmed Ayden Heaven has, unfortunately, ‘suffered a slight setback’ in his injury recovery.
He initially sustained the issue in the win over Leicester City prior to the international break, being stretchered off shortly after the interval following an impressive 51-minute shift. Pictures over the break then showed Heaven wearing a protective boot, prompting fans to fear the worst, before he was recalled to the matchday squad against Newcastle United over the weekend – albeit as an unused substitute.
The January signing, hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Wayne Rooney after his first four appearances, will be chomping at the bit to feature again before the end of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Jonny Evans has returned to training following a five-month absence. His last outing came in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, during which he scored as United fell to a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. In the Premier League, the veteran was given the nod in Ruben Amorim’s first game in the dugout – a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
The 37-year-old is now in the final two months of his contract at the club, with reports suggesting he plans to hang up his boots and take on a coaching role – presumably with United – this summer, so he’ll certainly want to go out on a high in the coming weeks.
