FC Bayern was saddened to hear of the passing of its former player Wolfgang Rausch. Rausch, who made a total of 55 competitive appearances for the German record champions between 1977 and 1979, once defended alongside Georg “Katsche” Schwarzenbeck and Kurt Niedermayer. He scored three goals for the Reds, including a historic one on 7 October 1978. His equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen was the club’s 1,000th Bundesliga goal. The Aachen native has now passed away at the age of 78.

FC Bayern offers its condolences to the family and friends of Rausch, who made a total of 257 Bundesliga appearances (seven goals), won the DFB Cup with 1. FC Köln in 1968 and had a number of spells in the USA (New York, Detroit, Dallas) at the end of his playing career. The former German youth international achieved promotion to the Bundesliga twice with Rot-Weiss Essen.
