FC Bayern Women make the long trip north for Matchday 4 of the Google Pixel Bundesliga season as they visit Werder Bremen. The goal on the furthest away trip of the domestic campaign isn’t just to extend their remarkable unbeaten run in the league but also to retain top spot in the table as they take to pitch 11 at the Weserstadion at 2pm CEST on Sunday. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our preview.

Latest news

Bayern have kicked off the new campaign with a perfect record of three wins from three in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and conceding three. The opening 2-0 victory at Turbine Potsdam has since been followed with big wins at home to RB Leipzig (6-2) and Hoffenheim (5-1). The result against Leipzig saw the Munich Frauen set a new Bundesliga record for longest undefeated streak. They have since extended that to 42 games with success over Hoffenheim last Monday.

Bayern have kept clean sheets in their last nine encounters against Bremen.

Opponent: Werder Bremen

The Green-Whites have produced some eye-catching results already this season, starting with a 3-3 draw away at DFB Cup holders Wolfsburg where they took the lead on two occasions. They followed that with a comfortable 4-0 win away at Arminia Bielefeld in the second round of the cup before a 2-0 victory against Potsdam. However, Thomas Horsch’s side suffered their first defeat of the campaign last weekend with a 2-0 setback in Leipzig. Werder come into the weekend in seventh place on four points.

Team news

Bayern head to Bremen still without Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament), Katharina Naschenweng (knee) and Franziska Kett (ankle). Magdalena Eriksson will again sit this one out with a knee issue as well.

Head coach Alexander Straus has been preparing Bayern for their second away game of the Bundesliga season.

Pre-match quotes

Sydney Lohmann: “Bremen have a good team. They’ve strengthened and had some good first games. Bremen aren’t an easy opponent, especially away from home.”

Alexander Straus: “Bremen have good players and a structured style of play. Finding gaps and getting through will be hard work. If we don’t throw all we’ve got, Bremen will very much challenge us.”
